Cervelo Test Team

Helping Carlos Sastre win the 2008 Tour de France was a great experience for Cervelo – but it also highlighted that although winning races is great, it’s not why we are in pro cycling. Our ultimate goal is to make better bikes and share our passion for cycling with our customers. That means working with riders in product development and opening up the team for fans. Both of these goals are difficult to accomplish in a team focused solely on winning races. In order to work with a team that matches these goals and our general philosophy in sports, we felt we had to start our own. Seven of the bike industry’s thought leaders – Zipp, Speedplay, Vittoria, 3T, Rotor Bike Components, fi’zi:k and Castelli joined us as founding partners. Soon after, Carlos Sastre decided to join the team, followed by Thor Hushovd and 37 other male and female riders. With management and staff putting in long hours to get the team set up in a few short months, the riders started rolling in February at the Tour of Qatar. With a stage win and 8 riders in the top-15 of the general classification, the men came in with a bang. By May, they led the World Team Ranking, a feat matched by the women in June. With stage wins in all Grand Tours for the men, overall wins in all the major stage races for the women, the first season was a roaring success. At the same time, the team initiated product development projects with many of its partners, introduced autograph sessions before and after most races and started TestTeamTravel, where fans can live like (and with) the pros for a few days. For those unable to join us at a race, the “Beyond the Peloton” video documentary provided a rare behind-the-scene look. 2010 will see us expand our activities even further, so we would like to invite you along for the ride.
