Milram
Team Milram carries the hopes of German cycling in the UCI ProTour and so rightly includes 17 of the best German riders in its strong 25-rider line-up.
The team is sponsored by the huge Nordmilch dairy group, with the team’s bright white and sky blue jersey representing the sponsor’s milk and dairy products.
Star riders include sprinter Gerald Ciolek, stage race contender Linus Gerdemann and the ever-aggressive Fabian Wegmann, who again wears the German National Champion’s jersey.
All three riders have shown their class and ability, with former Under 23 World Champion Ciolek one of the fastest sprinters in the bunch and a sure rival for Mark Cavendish in 2010. Gerdemann won the Bayern-Rundfahrt race in 2009, reminding everyone of the stage race talent he showed in the 2007 Tour de France. He will surely be back to his best in 2010. Wegmann won the prestigious Rund um den Henninger Turm race in Germany and again picked up a string of placings. His German Champion’s jersey will very likely be seen often in key moments of races.
Team Milram has strengthened its one-day classics squad for 2010 and will support Ciolek much more in the hectic final kilometres of sprint stages. New riders include Belgians Wim De Vocht and Roy Stentjens, Australia’s Luke Roberts and Germany’s Mike Kluge. They will join experienced road captain Servais Knaven, Niki Terpstra and Markus Eichler in the toughest one-day classics. The new star of German cycling could be Under 23 National Champion Dominik Nerz who turns professional with Team Milram.
“We had fewer victories than expected in 2009 but still showed our sponsors during key races and always performed well in Germany. We will build on those achievements in 2010 and look for success in every single race we’ll ride,” General Manager Gerry Van Gerwen said.
